KUALA TERENGGANU: More opportunities will be made available for local youths to be involved in aviation-related industries, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said.
He said for a start, 40 locals would be trained as pilots and 40 others as aircraft technicians. “The state government is also discussing with AirAsia about absorbing the youths for training as pilots,” he said here yesterday.
He said the state had submitted the names of 20 youths who had the academic qualifications to be considered as trainee pilots.
“We had an understanding with Malaysia Airlines, where local youths were given the chance to be trained as pilots for the airline,” he said.
In an unrelated development, Ahmad said the state government would build 12,000 low-cost houses throughout the state to provide decent homes for low-income earners.
He added that the project, expected to be completed by 2013, would cost about RM1.7bil.
