KUALA LUMPUR: Speakers at the architecture and law talk offered their audience a frank potrayal of the prospects and commitment required for a career in the two fields.
Taylor’s University School of Architecture, Building and Design dean Tony Liew said a career in architecture was a lifestyle rather than just a job.
“Architects can enjoy the experimentation, inspiration and longevity of career in this field. At the same time, you will have to deal with a dwindling social life because of the long hours and effort you have to put in,” he said.
Employment lawyer Datuk T. Thavalingam said scoring straight As was not necessary to embark on a career in law.
“While you need the basic legal knowledge, it is more important for you to be confident and articulate in convincing people of your arguments.
“You also need to be able to think on your feet,” he said.
Other speakers during the session were Malaysian Institute of Architects president Boon Chee Wee and Inti International University’s School of Law head Jeyanthi Arumugam.
